The Educational Technology Component
The aim of the Educational Technology component is to improve student achievement in literacy and numeracy by capitalizing on the use of technology in the classroom. To achieve this outcome, various activities are being implemented::
- Provision of technology tools - The EEH has provided tools such as printers, multi-media projectors, AlphaSmart keyboards and laptop computers to project schools to improve instruction and learning.
- Interactive face-to-face workshops - During workshops, teachers are exposed to the integration of technology into the curriculum with strategies including digital storytelling, creating electronic portfolios and using interactive storybooks.
- School visits- Specialists visit schools to provide support in preparing and implementing lessons involving the use of various technology tools.
- Mini Teachers’ Guides - Teachers are provided with “how-to-do-it” advice on technology integration strategies. Teacher guides are available in print and electronic versions. Click here to view one of the guides: Possibilities with PowerPoint.
- Instructional Materials Development workshops Due to high costs associated with commercial educational software, workshops are being conducted to guide teachers in the design and production of resource materials for literacy and numeracy enhancement. As a result of the Educational Technology intervention, it is expected that teachers will be equipped with requisite skills, technology-integration strategies and technology tools, and empowered to promote the development of literacy and numeracy skills in Grade 1-4 students.
